| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 51.821(4), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (4) "Participating medical school" means each of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | following entities: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (A) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Health Science Center at Houston; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (B) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Southwestern Medical Center; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (C) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Health Science Center at San Antonio; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (D) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Medical Branch at Galveston; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (E) the medical school at the Texas Tech |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | University Health Sciences Center at Lubbock; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (F) the medical school at the Texas Tech |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University Health Sciences Center at El Paso; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (G) the Baylor College of Medicine; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (H) the college of osteopathic medicine at the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (I) the medical school at The Texas A&M |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | University System Health Science Center; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (J) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | at Austin; [and] |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | (K) the medical school at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Rio Grande Valley; |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | (L) the medical school at the University of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Houston; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | (M) the college of osteopathic medicine at Sam |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Houston State University. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | SECTION 2. (a) As soon as practicable after the effective |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | date of this Act, the medical school at the University of Houston |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | and the college of osteopathic medicine at Sam Houston State |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | University each shall: |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | (1) enter into the agreement with the Joint Admission |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | Medical Program Council required by Section 51.829, Education Code; |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | and |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | (2) select an appropriate faculty member to represent |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | the respective medical school on the council. |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | (b) The medical school at the University of Houston and the |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | college of osteopathic medicine at Sam Houston State University |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | each shall provide internships and mentoring under the Joint |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | Admission Medical Program as appropriate beginning not later than |
|---|
| 54 | 54 | | the 2022-2023 academic year, but are not required before the |
|---|
| 55 | 55 | | 2023-2024 academic year to admit participating students to the |
|---|
| 56 | 56 | | school or college under the program. |
|---|
| 57 | 57 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 58 | 58 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 59 | 59 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 60 | 60 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 61 | 61 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
