6	6	AN ACT
7	7	relating to the time for making required reports of deceased
8	8	residents of this state to a voter registrar and to the secretary of
9	9	state.
10	10	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
11	11	SECTION 1. Sections 16.001(a) and (b), Election Code, are
12	12	amended to read as follows:
13	13	(a) Each month the local registrar of deaths shall prepare
14	14	an abstract of each death certificate issued in the month for a
15	15	decedent 18 years of age or older who was a resident of the state at
16	16	the time of death. The local registrar of deaths shall file each
17	17	abstract with the voter registrar of the decedent's county of
18	18	residence and the secretary of state as soon as possible, but not
19	19	later than one [the 10th] day after [of the month following the
20	20	month in which] the abstract is prepared.
21	21	(b) Each month the clerk of each court having probate
22	22	jurisdiction shall prepare an abstract of each application for
23	23	probate of a will, administration of a decedent's estate, or
24	24	determination of heirship, and each affidavit under Chapter 205,
25	25	Estates Code, that is filed in the month with a court served by the
26	26	clerk. The clerk shall file each abstract with the voter registrar
27	27	and the secretary of state as soon as possible, but not later than
28	28	one [the 10th] day after [of the month following the month in which]
29	29	the abstract is prepared.
30	30	SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
