| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. STUDY REGARDING CULTURAL APPROPRIATENESS OF |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS. The board of regents of The Texas A&M |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | University System shall designate a department or entity at Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | A&M University--Commerce to conduct a study of assessment |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | instruments administered under Subchapter B, Chapter 39, Education |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Code, to determine whether state-administered public school |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | assessment instruments are culturally appropriate. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 31, 2022, the department or entity at Texas A&M |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | University--Commerce designated by the board of regents shall |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | submit a report to the legislature that includes the results of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | study conducted under Section 1 of this Act and any associated |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recommendations. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires September 1, 2023. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
