44 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
55 AN ACT
66 relating to a study by Texas A&M University--Commerce regarding the
77 cultural appropriateness of state-administered public school
88 assessment instruments.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. STUDY REGARDING CULTURAL APPROPRIATENESS OF
1111 ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENTS. The board of regents of The Texas A&M
1212 University System shall designate a department or entity at Texas
1313 A&M University--Commerce to conduct a study of assessment
1414 instruments administered under Subchapter B, Chapter 39, Education
1515 Code, to determine whether state-administered public school
1616 assessment instruments are culturally appropriate.
1717 SECTION 2. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December
1818 31, 2022, the department or entity at Texas A&M
1919 University--Commerce designated by the board of regents shall
2020 submit a report to the legislature that includes the results of the
2121 study conducted under Section 1 of this Act and any associated
2222 recommendations.
2323 SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires September 1, 2023.
2424 SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect
2525 immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members
2626 elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas
2727 Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for
2828 immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
