55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the selection of forensic science professional services
88 by governmental entities.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 2254.002(2), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (2) "Professional services" means services:
1313 (A) within the scope of the practice, as defined
1414 by state law, of:
1515 (i) accounting;
1616 (ii) architecture;
1717 (iii) landscape architecture;
1818 (iv) land surveying;
1919 (v) medicine;
2020 (vi) optometry;
2121 (vii) professional engineering;
2222 (viii) real estate appraising; [or]
2323 (ix) professional nursing; or
2424 (x) forensic science;
2525 (B) provided in connection with the professional
2626 employment or practice of a person who is licensed or registered as:
2727 (i) a certified public accountant;
2828 (ii) an architect;
2929 (iii) a landscape architect;
3030 (iv) a land surveyor;
3131 (v) a physician, including a surgeon;
3232 (vi) an optometrist;
3333 (vii) a professional engineer;
3434 (viii) a state certified or state licensed
3535 real estate appraiser; [or]
3636 (ix) a registered nurse; or
3737 (x) a forensic analyst or forensic science
3838 expert; or
3939 (C) provided by a person lawfully engaged in
4040 interior design, regardless of whether the person is registered as
4141 an interior designer under Chapter 1053, Occupations Code.
4242 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
