44 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
66 memories of Andrew George Khoury of Longview, who died on
77 August 24, 2019, at the age of 50; and
88 WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Andy Khoury was born in
99 Longview on May 20, 1969, to Dorothy and Alvin Khoury, and he grew
1010 up with a brother, Samuel; after graduating from Longview High
1111 School in 1987, he earned his bachelor's degree cum laude from
1212 Southern Methodist University in 1991, and he went on to earn his
1313 law degree from Baylor University in 1994; admitted to the bar that
1414 same year, he was sworn in by his father, Judge Alvin Khoury; and
1515 WHEREAS, After clerking for the firms of Jones, Jones & Curry
1616 in Marshall and Brown McCarroll & Oaks Hartline in Longview during
1717 and immediately after law school, Mr. Khoury began his legal career
1818 at the firm of Nichols & Nichols in Longview, where he demonstrated
1919 his expertise in state and federal litigation, including personal
2020 injury cases as well as complex commercial, insurance, and oil and
2121 gas cases; he opened the Khoury Law Firm in 2012, focusing on
2222 business litigation, wills, trusts, and probate cases; and
2323 WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Khoury served the
2424 Gregg County Bar Association as president, and he helped organize
2525 an effort to bring the Supreme Court of Texas to conduct oral
2626 arguments in Longview; he was a member of the State Bar of Texas and
2727 served on its Judiciary Relations Committee, and he was also a
2828 member of the Northeast Texas Bar Association, the Eastern District
2929 of Texas Bar Association, and the Phi Delta Phi International Legal
3030 Honor Society-Hemphill Inn; and
3131 WHEREAS, Mr. Khoury gave back to his beloved hometown through
3232 his service with the Longview ISD Foundation, as vice chair of the
3333 City of Longview Historic Preservation Commission, and as a judge
3434 on the Longview Teen Court; he was a Paul Harris Fellow in the
3535 Rotary Club of Longview, and he was active with the CHRISTUS Good
3636 Shepherd Foundation, the Greater Longview United Way, and the
3737 Longview Chamber of Commerce; he was also an active member of the
3838 alumni associations of SMU and Baylor Law; and
3939 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Khoury delighted in
4040 traveling with his family to Florida and Maine, and he was a
4141 passionate supporter of the Longview Lobo and SMU football teams;
4242 in addition, he was devoted to his two dogs, Leo and Lucy; and
4343 WHEREAS, A widely respected attorney and a proud son of
4444 Longview, Andy Khoury lived a life that was rich in personal and
4545 professional achievements, and he has left behind a record of
4646 service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now,
4747 therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
4949 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew George Khoury and extend
5050 heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it
5151 further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5353 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5454 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5555 Andy Khoury.
