4	4		SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
5	5		WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
6	6		memories of Andrew George Khoury of Longview, who died on
7	7		August 24, 2019, at the age of 50; and
8	8		WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Andy Khoury was born in
9	9		Longview on May 20, 1969, to Dorothy and Alvin Khoury, and he grew
10	10		up with a brother, Samuel; after graduating from Longview High
11	11		School in 1987, he earned his bachelor's degree cum laude from
12	12		Southern Methodist University in 1991, and he went on to earn his
13	13		law degree from Baylor University in 1994; admitted to the bar that
14	14		same year, he was sworn in by his father, Judge Alvin Khoury; and
15	15		WHEREAS, After clerking for the firms of Jones, Jones & Curry
16	16		in Marshall and Brown McCarroll & Oaks Hartline in Longview during
17	17		and immediately after law school, Mr. Khoury began his legal career
18	18		at the firm of Nichols & Nichols in Longview, where he demonstrated
19	19		his expertise in state and federal litigation, including personal
20	20		injury cases as well as complex commercial, insurance, and oil and
21	21		gas cases; he opened the Khoury Law Firm in 2012, focusing on
22	22		business litigation, wills, trusts, and probate cases; and
23	23		WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Khoury served the
24	24		Gregg County Bar Association as president, and he helped organize
25	25		an effort to bring the Supreme Court of Texas to conduct oral
26	26		arguments in Longview; he was a member of the State Bar of Texas and
27	27		served on its Judiciary Relations Committee, and he was also a
28	28		member of the Northeast Texas Bar Association, the Eastern District
29	29		of Texas Bar Association, and the Phi Delta Phi International Legal
30	30		Honor Society-Hemphill Inn; and
31	31		WHEREAS, Mr. Khoury gave back to his beloved hometown through
32	32		his service with the Longview ISD Foundation, as vice chair of the
33	33		City of Longview Historic Preservation Commission, and as a judge
34	34		on the Longview Teen Court; he was a Paul Harris Fellow in the
35	35		Rotary Club of Longview, and he was active with the CHRISTUS Good
36	36		Shepherd Foundation, the Greater Longview United Way, and the
37	37		Longview Chamber of Commerce; he was also an active member of the
38	38		alumni associations of SMU and Baylor Law; and
39	39		WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Khoury delighted in
40	40		traveling with his family to Florida and Maine, and he was a
41	41		passionate supporter of the Longview Lobo and SMU football teams;
42	42		in addition, he was devoted to his two dogs, Leo and Lucy; and
43	43		WHEREAS, A widely respected attorney and a proud son of
44	44		Longview, Andy Khoury lived a life that was rich in personal and
45	45		professional achievements, and he has left behind a record of
46	46		service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now,
47	47		therefore, be it
48	48		RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
49	49		hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew George Khoury and extend
50	50		heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it
51	51		further
52	52		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53		prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
54	54		Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
55	55		Andy Khoury.
