5	6		WHEREAS, The Rotary Club of Tyler celebrated its centennial
6	7		in 2020; and
7	8		WHEREAS, Chartered on May 1, 1920, under the leadership of
8	9		founding president T. H. Shelby, the club still operates under its
9	10		original charter today; its membership of more than 250
10	11		civic-minded individuals met in the Blackstone Hotel for many
11	12		years, and it was popularly known as the Downtown Rotary Club; and
12	13		WHEREAS, The group has demonstrated an exceptional
13	14		commitment to education through the decades, highlighting the
14	15		accomplishments of outstanding seniors from area high schools and
15	16		hosting the annual Young Citizens Club banquet; moreover, it has
16	17		donated funds and provided support to all of the city's major civic
17	18		organizations, among them the Literacy Council of Tyler, the East
18	19		Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Texas Rose Festival, and the Tyler
19	20		Museum of Art; and
20	21		WHEREAS, Recognizing health care needs in the community, the
21	22		Rotarians have made gifts of significant impact to numerous
22	23		organizations, including the Bethesda Health Clinic, the Tyler
23	24		Junior College Robert M. Rogers Nursing & Health Sciences Center
24	25		Dental Clinic, and The University of Texas Health Science Center at
25	26		Tyler; and
26	27		WHEREAS, Guided by the motto "Service Above Self," members of
27	28		the Rotary Club of Tyler have played a vital role in the betterment
28	29		of their community for over a century, earning the deep admiration
29	30		and appreciation of their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
30	31		RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
31	32		hereby commemorate the centennial of the Rotary Club of Tyler and
32	33		extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success in
33	34		their important work; and, be it further
34	35		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
35	36		prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
36	37		Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
