44 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
55 proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing daylight saving

77 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
99 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 74. The state, acting under the exemption provisions
1111 of Section 3(a), Uniform Time Act of 1966 (15 U.S.C. Section 260a
1212 (a)), is exempt from the provisions of that law that establish
1313 daylight saving time. The exemption provided by this section
1414 applies to both the portion of the state using central standard time
1515 as the official standard time and the portion of the state using
1616 mountain standard time as the official standard time.
1717 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to
1818 the Texas Constitution:
1919 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies
2020 to the constitutional amendment proposed by the 87th Legislature,
2121 Regular Session, 2021, to abolish daylight saving time in Texas.
2222 (b) The constitutional amendment takes effect November 6,
2323 2022, to coincide with the end of daylight saving time for 2022.
2424 (c) This temporary provision takes effect on the adoption of
2525 the constitutional amendment by the voters and expires January 1,
2626 2023.
2727 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2828 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021.
2929 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
3030 proposition: "The constitutional amendment abolishing daylight
3131 saving time in Texas."
