55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment to prohibit the legislature
77 from requiring a license or permit for the wearing of arms.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 23, Article I, Texas Constitution, is
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 23. (a) Every citizen shall have the right to keep and
1212 bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State.
1313 (b) The [; but the] Legislature shall have power, by law, to
1414 regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime, but may
1515 not require a citizen of this state to obtain a license or permit to
1616 wear arms.
1717 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1818 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021.
1919 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
2020 proposition: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the
2121 legislature from requiring a license or permit for the wearing of
2222 arms."
