8 | 8 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 23, Article I, Texas Constitution, is | |
10 | 10 | amended to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | Sec. 23. (a) Every citizen shall have the right to keep and | |
12 | 12 | bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State. | |
13 | 13 | (b) The [; but the] Legislature shall have power, by law, to | |
14 | 14 | regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime, but may | |
15 | 15 | not require a citizen of this state to obtain a license or permit to | |
16 | 16 | wear arms. | |
17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
18 | 18 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021. | |
19 | 19 | The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the | |
20 | 20 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment prohibiting the | |
21 | 21 | legislature from requiring a license or permit for the wearing of | |
22 | 22 | arms." |
