| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The observance of Texas Retired Teachers Week |

| 3 | 3 | | from April 5 through 9, 2021, provides a welcome opportunity to |

| 4 | 4 | | recognize the members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | for the vital contributions they have made to the state; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Retired Teachers Association represents |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | retired public school and higher education employees; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The members of this notable group continually |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | strive to improve their local communities throughout the state, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and they have donated over 3.6 million hours of their time as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | volunteers, equivalent to a value of more than $99 million; to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | promote literacy and lifelong learning, they have also provided |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | over 1.25 million books to children through the Children's Book |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Project, including 101,537 last year alone; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Conscious of the effect their health has on the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | world around them, members of the association seek to preserve |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the TRS-Care benefits program by reducing doctor visits, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | exercising regularly, and eating healthy foods; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Retiree annuity payments from the Teacher |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Retirement System of Texas have exceeded $11.6 billion and have |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | directly created 194,544 jobs in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Retired Teachers Association and its |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | nearly 100,000 members are working diligently to protect current |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and future public education retirees; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby recognize April 5 through 9, 2021, as Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Retired Teachers Week; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | prepared for the association as an expression of high regard from |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the Texas Senate. |
