1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 142
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the state's food banks for their critical assistance to
4	4	Texans in need during the COVID-19 pandemic and associated
5	5	economic turmoil; and
6	6	WHEREAS, The State of Texas has 21 food banks serving all
7	7	254 counties in coordination with hundreds of charitable
8	8	organizations and food pantries; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Food insecurity has nearly doubled during the
10	10	pandemic, and approximately 1 in 4 Texans now lack reliable access
11	11	to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Food banks have been forced to reinvent their
13	13	distribution models suddenly due to disruptions to volunteer
14	14	bases and distribution partners; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Despite these challenges, Texas food banks have
16	16	distributed approximately 75 million pounds of food per month to
17	17	Texans in need; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Texas food banks have risen to the additional
19	19	challenges posed by Hurricane Laura and Winter Storm Uri to
20	20	pursue their collective mission of a hunger-free Texas; now,
21	21	therefore, be it
22	22	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
23	23	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Texas food banks and extend to
24	24	them sincerest gratitude for their resiliency, innovation, and
25	25	dedication to providing Texas communities with critical support
26	26	during the COVID-19 pandemic; and, be it further
27	27	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
28	28	honor of their outstanding service.
