2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Beatriz Lavine, who is retiring from the Office of the |
---|
4 | 4 | | Attorney General after a long and successful career as an |
---|
5 | 5 | | attorney; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A native of Matamoros, Mexico, Beatriz Lavine |
---|
7 | 7 | | immigrated to the United States as a child; she attended South |
---|
8 | 8 | | Texas College of Law in Houston as a single mother to three |
---|
9 | 9 | | daughters, and she earned her degree in 1995; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Beatriz began her career as an attorney in private |
---|
11 | 11 | | practice specializing in civil, criminal, and immigration cases |
---|
12 | 12 | | in Brownsville; she soon became a trusted legal expert, and she |
---|
13 | 13 | | was proud to have settled two multimillion dollar cases; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Led by her desire to serve the broader public, she |
---|
15 | 15 | | joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2006; she served the |
---|
16 | 16 | | agency as a full-time attorney for 10 years and served for four |
---|
17 | 17 | | years as a temporary attorney through Goodwill Industries; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During her impressive career in state service, |
---|
19 | 19 | | she spent five years with the Brownsville office, five years with |
---|
20 | 20 | | the Harlingen office, three and one-half years with the Laredo |
---|
21 | 21 | | office, and six months at the Pharr office; she litigated more |
---|
22 | 22 | | than 15,000 cases before judges in Cameron, Willacy, Hidalgo, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Starr, Zapata, Webb, Jim Hogg, and La Salle Counties; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Beatriz Lavine has exemplified the highest ideals |
---|
25 | 25 | | of her profession throughout her career, and she has made a |
---|
26 | 26 | | difference in the lives of many; she is esteemed by citizens and her |
---|
27 | 27 | | colleagues, and her presence as an attorney with the Office of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Attorney General will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Beatriz Lavine on her outstanding |
---|
31 | 31 | | career and her many contributions to the state and extend to her |
---|
32 | 32 | | best wishes in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
34 | 34 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
