1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 154
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Imelda Garcia for her outstanding work with the Texas
4	4	Department of State Health Services; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Imelda Garcia is the associate commissioner of
6	6	Laboratory and Infectious Disease Services at the Department of
7	7	State Health Services; she joined the agency in 2007 after
8	8	beginning her career in public health as an employee of the New
9	9	York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and
10	10	WHEREAS, She has held multiple leadership positions within
11	11	the Department of State Health Services; she served as the
12	12	director of the Infectious Disease Prevention Section, where she
13	13	was responsible for overseeing prevention and control activities
14	14	related to zoonotic and emerging and acute infectious diseases,
15	15	health care safety, antibiotic stewardship, and immunization
16	16	programs; and
17	17	WHEREAS, In 2018, she was promoted to the position of
18	18	associate commissioner of Laboratory and Infectious Disease
19	19	Services; in this role, she has effectively led the agency's
20	20	response to the state's COVID-19 pandemic and has overseen such
21	21	areas as disease surveillance, testing, and vaccination; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Imelda Garcia has served Texans with distinction
23	23	over the course of her career with the Department of State Health
24	24	Services, and it is truly fitting that she receive special
25	25	recognition; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
27	27	Legislature, hereby commend Imelda Garcia on her invaluable
28	28	leadership in meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic
29	29	response in Texas and extend to her best wishes for continued
30	30	success; and, be it further
31	31	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
32	32	her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
