SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Sergeant Roel Ivan Cantu, who is retiring on January 31, 2021, after nearly three decades of outstanding service with the Rancho Viejo Police Department; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Cantu joined the Rancho Viejo Police Department in June of 1991 as a reserve officer, and he became a full-time member of the force the next year; a graduate of James Pace High School in Brownsville, he studied criminal justice at The University of Texas at Brownsville and earned numerous certifications, including that of master peace officer; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, he has effectively handled a wide range of law enforcement responsibilities in such areas as municipal warrants, background investigations, sex offender registration, criminal investigations, courtroom security, and crime victim rights; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Cantu has faced the unique challenges of law enforcement duty with courage, integrity, and a deep commitment to public service; his unstinting dedication and professionalism have had a positive impact on the safety of the community; and WHEREAS, An exemplary peace officer, he is respected and admired by his colleagues and area citizens, and his presence at the Rancho Viejo Police Department will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Roel Ivan Cantu on his exceptional service to the people of Rancho Viejo as a member of the Rancho Viejo Police Department and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
