| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sergeant Roel Ivan Cantu, who is retiring on January |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 31, 2021, after nearly three decades of outstanding service with |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | the Rancho Viejo Police Department; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Cantu joined the Rancho Viejo Police |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Department in June of 1991 as a reserve officer, and he became a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | full-time member of the force the next year; a graduate of James |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Pace High School in Brownsville, he studied criminal justice at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | The University of Texas at Brownsville and earned numerous |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | certifications, including that of master peace officer; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, he |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | has effectively handled a wide range of law enforcement |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | responsibilities in such areas as municipal warrants, background |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | investigations, sex offender registration, criminal |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | investigations, courtroom security, and crime victim rights; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Cantu has faced the unique challenges of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | law enforcement duty with courage, integrity, and a deep |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | commitment to public service; his unstinting dedication and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | professionalism have had a positive impact on the safety of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary peace officer, he is respected and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | admired by his colleagues and area citizens, and his presence at |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the Rancho Viejo Police Department will be greatly missed; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Roel Ivan Cantu on his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | exceptional service to the people of Rancho Viejo as a member of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Rancho Viejo Police Department and extend to him best wishes |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
