| 4 | 4 | | the most prestigious accolades an elementary or secondary school |

| 5 | 5 | | in the United States can receive; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | created by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | campuses that have demonstrated superior academic performance or |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | made notable progress in improving outcomes among economically |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | disadvantaged students; South Loop Elementary is one of only 26 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | public schools in Texas to have earned a nomination for the 2021 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | award; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of principal Norma |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Myers, South Loop Elementary was selected in the exemplary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | achievement-gap-closing school category as a result of student |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | performance on the 2020 STAAR assessments; Ms. Myers continued |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | as principal when the school consolidated with Capistrano |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Elementary before the 2020-2021 academic year as part of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | district's strategic plan to right-size its facilities; South |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Loop Elementary joins two other campuses in the Ysleta |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Independent School District as a 2021 nominee; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through dedication, hard work, and perseverance, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the teachers and students of South Loop Elementary have |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | established a record of scholastic excellence, and their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | outstanding efforts have been duly recognized with the Blue |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Ribbon School award nomination; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate South Loop Elementary School on |

| 29 | 29 | | its nomination for a 2021 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon |

| 30 | 30 | | School award and extend to its teachers, students, and staff sincere |
