11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 188
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Mayor Laura Hill of Southlake, who is retiring after
44 nearly two decades of outstanding service to the city; and
55 WHEREAS, Laura Hill began her distinguished career in public
66 service in 2004, when she was elected to the Southlake City Council;
77 she became the first woman to serve as Southlake's mayor after her
88 election in 2015, and she was reelected in 2018; and
99 WHEREAS, Throughout her service in public office, she has
1010 been noted for her focus on issues affecting young people, and she
1111 is the cofounder of multiple organizations geared toward supporting
1212 students; in addition, following a forthright discussion with
1313 Southlake High School students about inclusion and diversity, she
1414 created the Mayor's Alliance for Unity and Culture to address issues
1515 of race and discrimination; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mayor Hill has also been committed to making city
1717 government more transparent and more responsive to the
1818 community, and she has actively participated in such community
1919 forums as Meet the Mayor events and Coffee and Conversation
2020 roundtable discussions; she has been a dedicated supporter of the
2121 city's first responders, and under her leadership, the police and
2222 fire departments have achieved the highest levels of
2323 accreditation; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mayor Hill has been active in a number of
2525 professional and civic organizations, including the Southlake
2626 Chamber of Commerce, the Metroport Cities Partnership, and the
2727 North Texas Commission; it is truly fitting that she receive
2828 special recognition as she moves forward from her role as
2929 Southlake's mayor; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3131 Legislature, hereby commend Mayor Laura Hill on her exceptional
3232 service to the people of Southlake and extend to her best wishes for
3333 continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
