2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize Mayor Laura Hill of Southlake, who is retiring after |
---|
4 | 4 | | nearly two decades of outstanding service to the city; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Laura Hill began her distinguished career in public |
---|
6 | 6 | | service in 2004, when she was elected to the Southlake City Council; |
---|
7 | 7 | | she became the first woman to serve as Southlake's mayor after her |
---|
8 | 8 | | election in 2015, and she was reelected in 2018; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her service in public office, she has |
---|
10 | 10 | | been noted for her focus on issues affecting young people, and she |
---|
11 | 11 | | is the cofounder of multiple organizations geared toward supporting |
---|
12 | 12 | | students; in addition, following a forthright discussion with |
---|
13 | 13 | | Southlake High School students about inclusion and diversity, she |
---|
14 | 14 | | created the Mayor's Alliance for Unity and Culture to address issues |
---|
15 | 15 | | of race and discrimination; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Hill has also been committed to making city |
---|
17 | 17 | | government more transparent and more responsive to the |
---|
18 | 18 | | community, and she has actively participated in such community |
---|
19 | 19 | | forums as Meet the Mayor events and Coffee and Conversation |
---|
20 | 20 | | roundtable discussions; she has been a dedicated supporter of the |
---|
21 | 21 | | city's first responders, and under her leadership, the police and |
---|
22 | 22 | | fire departments have achieved the highest levels of |
---|
23 | 23 | | accreditation; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mayor Hill has been active in a number of |
---|
25 | 25 | | professional and civic organizations, including the Southlake |
---|
26 | 26 | | Chamber of Commerce, the Metroport Cities Partnership, and the |
---|
27 | 27 | | North Texas Commission; it is truly fitting that she receive |
---|
28 | 28 | | special recognition as she moves forward from her role as |
---|
29 | 29 | | Southlake's mayor; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mayor Laura Hill on her exceptional |
---|
32 | 32 | | service to the people of Southlake and extend to her best wishes for |
---|
33 | 33 | | continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
35 | 35 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
