| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Elizabeth Dole Foundation's Hidden Heroes campaign in |

| 4 | 4 | | recognizing and paying tribute to the military and veteran |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | caregivers of our state and nation; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since World War II, our nation's engagement in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | wars and armed conflicts has given rise to the 5.5 million |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | parents, spouses, siblings, and friends who act as caregivers for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | military veterans and service members who have been wounded or |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | are ill or injured; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Our nation provides multifaceted support and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | resources to those who have served in the armed forces, but the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | caregivers of these brave men and women receive little support or |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | acknowledgment; most of these caregivers do not identify |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | themselves as such and consider the work they do and the unique |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | challenges they face to be part of their civic and patriotic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | duty; many suffer debilitating mental, physical, and emotional |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | effects as a result of their caregiving duties and lack the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | support, assistance, and resources they need; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of this need, the Elizabeth Dole |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Foundation has established the Hidden Heroes campaign to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recognize and support military caregivers and to raise awareness |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of the challenges they face; by building a network of cities and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | counties, the campaign connects communities and caregivers with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | information, services, and resources and seeks to inspire and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | encourage community members and leaders to take action in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | supporting military caregivers; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, These essential caregivers provide a vital |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | service to those they care for and to our nation and it is indeed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | fitting that the Texas Senate recognize and pay tribute to these |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | hidden heroes for their selfless and invaluable service; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the state's military and veteran |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | caregivers and encourage Texans across the state to create |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | supportive environments and opportunities to assist these |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | dedicated caregivers; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | honor of the military and veteran caregivers of Texas and the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Hidden Heroes campaign. |
