| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | memories of Joseph LeGrande Northcutt of Longview, who died on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | January 12, 2021, at the age of 83; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation resident of Longview, LeGrande |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Northcutt was born to Josephine and William Northcutt Jr. on |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | March 19, 1937, and he grew up with a brother, W. D. Northcutt |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | III; he graduated from Longview High School in 1954 and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in business from Baylor |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | University; answering his nation's call to duty, he served in the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | U.S. Air Force; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Northcutt |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | returned to Longview, where he enjoyed a successful career as an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | independent insurance agent, with the slogan, "LeGrande, your |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | insurance man!"; a leader in his community, he was a board member |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of Metropolitan Savings and Loan, Market Place Ministries, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Downtown Development Corporation, and for more than 50 years, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he belonged to the Longview Rotary Club, winning recognition as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Paul Harris Fellow; he was also a lifelong member of First |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Baptist Church, serving the congregation as a deacon, Sunday |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | school teacher, bus driver, and scoutmaster; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Northcutt shared a rewarding marriage with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his wife, Cassandra, that spanned over six decades, and he was |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the proud father of two children, Gordon and Aurelia; later in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | life, he was further blessed with four grandchildren, Conlan, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | William, Adolynn, and Truett; he delighted in the time he spent |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | with his friends and loved ones "junin' around" at his farm in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Panola County or fishing for crappie on Caddo Lake, and he was a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | stalwart supporter of the Baylor Bears football and basketball |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | teams; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man, a respected professional, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and a true son of Longview, LeGrande Northcutt lived a rich and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | generosity that will continue to inspire all those who were |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joseph LeGrande |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Northcutt and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | this day, it do so in memory of Joseph LeGrande Northcutt. |
