44 Charlotte Han Sharp
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Charlotte Han Sharp, a beloved and
77 esteemed Texas citizen, who died December 15, 2020, at the age of
88 67; and
99 WHEREAS, A native of Temple, Texas, Charlotte Han was born
1010 to Robert and Millicent Han on August 20, 1953; she grew up in
1111 Austin with her two brothers; and
1212 WHEREAS, Charlotte graduated from The University of Texas
1313 at Austin in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in home
1414 economics; she married John Sharp in 1978, and that same year, he
1515 was elected to the Texas House of Representatives; she was his
1616 close partner in his long career in politics and public service
1717 and in his service as chancellor of The Texas A&M University
1818 System, and she found additional fulfillment in her extensive
1919 philanthropic and humanitarian endeavors; and
2020 WHEREAS, A woman of great faith and Christian devotion,
2121 Mrs. Sharp was active with the youth of Saint Mary's Catholic
2222 Church in College Station, and she was a cofounder of Saint
2323 Gabriel's Catholic School in Austin; she gave generously of her
2424 time to assist vulnerable women, children, and other community
2525 members in need, and in the 1990s, she worked with United Jewish
2626 Appeal to relocate hundreds of Jewish families from Russia to
2727 Israel; and
2828 WHEREAS, A true force in fund-raising, she helped secure
2929 notable contributions to such organizations as Dell Children's
3030 Medical Center and Texas Children's Hospital, and she raised a
3131 record amount of scholarship funding for Texas A&M University
3232 medical students in her role as honorary chair of the 2015
3333 Magnolia Tea; she was a member of numerous civic and charitable
3434 organizations, including the Junior Service League in Victoria,
3535 the Junior League of Austin, and the Woman's Club of Bryan; and
3636 WHEREAS, Charlotte and John were blessed with two
3737 children, Spencer and Victoria, and their two granddaughters,
3838 Simone and Freya, were a source of great pride and joy to her; and
3939 WHEREAS, Charlotte Sharp was a woman of grace and
4040 generosity; she inspired her many friends and loved ones through
4141 her strength and selfless civic example, and she leaves behind
4242 memories that will long be treasured by those who were privileged
4343 to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
4545 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4646 family of Charlotte Han Sharp; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4848 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4949 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5050 memory of Charlotte Sharp.
