5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Charlotte Han Sharp, a beloved and |
---|
7 | 7 | | esteemed Texas citizen, who died December 15, 2020, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 67; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Temple, Texas, Charlotte Han was born |
---|
10 | 10 | | to Robert and Millicent Han on August 20, 1953; she grew up in |
---|
11 | 11 | | Austin with her two brothers; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Charlotte graduated from The University of Texas |
---|
13 | 13 | | at Austin in 1977 with a bachelor of science degree in home |
---|
14 | 14 | | economics; she married John Sharp in 1978, and that same year, he |
---|
15 | 15 | | was elected to the Texas House of Representatives; she was his |
---|
16 | 16 | | close partner in his long career in politics and public service |
---|
17 | 17 | | and in his service as chancellor of The Texas A&M University |
---|
18 | 18 | | System, and she found additional fulfillment in her extensive |
---|
19 | 19 | | philanthropic and humanitarian endeavors; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A woman of great faith and Christian devotion, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Mrs. Sharp was active with the youth of Saint Mary's Catholic |
---|
22 | 22 | | Church in College Station, and she was a cofounder of Saint |
---|
23 | 23 | | Gabriel's Catholic School in Austin; she gave generously of her |
---|
24 | 24 | | time to assist vulnerable women, children, and other community |
---|
25 | 25 | | members in need, and in the 1990s, she worked with United Jewish |
---|
26 | 26 | | Appeal to relocate hundreds of Jewish families from Russia to |
---|
27 | 27 | | Israel; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A true force in fund-raising, she helped secure |
---|
29 | 29 | | notable contributions to such organizations as Dell Children's |
---|
30 | 30 | | Medical Center and Texas Children's Hospital, and she raised a |
---|
31 | 31 | | record amount of scholarship funding for Texas A&M University |
---|
32 | 32 | | medical students in her role as honorary chair of the 2015 |
---|
33 | 33 | | Magnolia Tea; she was a member of numerous civic and charitable |
---|
34 | 34 | | organizations, including the Junior Service League in Victoria, |
---|
35 | 35 | | the Junior League of Austin, and the Woman's Club of Bryan; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Charlotte and John were blessed with two |
---|
37 | 37 | | children, Spencer and Victoria, and their two granddaughters, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Simone and Freya, were a source of great pride and joy to her; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Charlotte Sharp was a woman of grace and |
---|
40 | 40 | | generosity; she inspired her many friends and loved ones through |
---|
41 | 41 | | her strength and selfless civic example, and she leaves behind |
---|
42 | 42 | | memories that will long be treasured by those who were privileged |
---|
43 | 43 | | to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
46 | 46 | | family of Charlotte Han Sharp; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
48 | 48 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
50 | 50 | | memory of Charlotte Sharp. |
