| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas recognizes the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | victims of teenage dating violence and honors the memory of the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | late Christine Mae Blubaugh of Grand Prairie, who tragically lost |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | her life at the age of 16 as a result of dating violence; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Prevention, one in 11 female and one in 14 male high school |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | students report having experienced dating violence within the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | last year; 26 percent of women and 15 percent of men who have been |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | victims of violence by an intimate partner, whether physical |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | violence, sexual violence, or stalking, first experienced dating |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | violence before the age of 18; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, On March 25, 2000, Christine Blubaugh's life was |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | taken as a result of dating violence, and for the past 21 years, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | her family and loved ones have tirelessly advocated the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | importance of educating young people about the warning signs and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | prevention of child abuse, family violence, and teen dating |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | violence; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is committed to the safety of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | state's young citizens, and in recognition of the need for public |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | awareness about the dangers and devastating consequences of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | teenage dating violence, the Texas Legislature designated |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | February of 2021 as Teen Dating Violence Prevention Month; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Christine Mae |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Blubaugh and to all victims who have suffered as a result of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | teenage dating violence and encourage citizens throughout the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | state to help promote the awareness of this important issue; and, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | memory of Christine Blubaugh and in honor of the victims of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | teenage dating violence. |
