| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Victoria County and Texans across the state |

| 4 | 4 | | in celebrating April 8, 2021, as Victoria County Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Victoria County is located in South Texas on the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Gulf Coastal Plains; the area was first settled by non-native |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | peoples in 1824, when Martín De León founded a settlement in a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mexican colony named for Mexico's first elected president, Don |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Guadalupe Victoria; Victoria County was one of the original 23 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | counties established by the First Congress of the Republic of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Blessed with abundant natural grasslands and a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | subtropical climate, the county became a leader in the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | development of the Texas cattle industry; as knowledge about |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | cultivating prairie soils increased, commercial farming of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | diverse crops arose in the 1890s, and the production of corn and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | cotton grew in importance; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Situated in the heart of the Golden Crescent |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | region, the City of Victoria is the county's largest community |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and serves as the county seat; it has grown from its humble |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | beginnings in the early 19th century to become the cultural, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | historic, and economic hub for people across the region; the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | county's citizens have demonstrated remarkable strength and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | resilience through the years and have come together courageously |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to support their communities in the face of challenges and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Victoria County has played a vital role in the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | growth and prosperity of the Lone Star State, and its citizens |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | continue to embrace the county's rich and colorful past while |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | working together to ensure a bright and prosperous future; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby recognize April 8, 2021, as Victoria County |

| 35 | 35 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | best wishes for an informative and enjoyable visit to Austin; |
