1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 236
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the 29 Texas A&M University students who are providing
4	4	valuable support to the 87th Texas Legislature while gaining
5	5	experience in public service as members of the Agricultural and
6	6	Natural Resources Policy Internship Program and the Public
7	7	Policy Internship Program; and
8	8	WHEREAS, For three decades, the Agricultural and Natural
9	9	Resources Policy Internship Program has sent student interns to
10	10	Austin and Washington, D.C., where they work on a wide array of
11	11	issues; their strong background and interest in agriculture and
12	12	natural resources allow them to offer specialized knowledge to
13	13	legislators; the program was founded in response to a request by
14	14	a member of the United States Congress for an intern who could
15	15	assist his office with these matters, and it has since grown to
16	16	include numerous congressional offices as well as the United
17	17	States House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, the
18	18	United States Department of Agriculture, and offices on the state
19	19	level during legislative years; approximately 1,000 students
20	20	have participated in semester-long internships; and
21	21	WHEREAS, The Public Policy Internship Program, established
22	22	in 1999, works with various colleges and departments to create an
23	23	interdisciplinary environment for comprehensive academic
24	24	training, research, and policy programming; interns in the
25	25	nation's capital and in Austin serve in a variety of settings
26	26	that align with their academic and professional goals; some 1,000
27	27	students have participated in semester-long internships; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Led by director Stephanie Webb, both internship
29	29	programs select their highly qualified and dedicated
30	30	participants through a rigorous application process; in addition
31	31	to academic achievement, students must demonstrate their
32	32	potential to take full advantage of the opportunities for
33	33	scholarly and professional development as well as the desire to
34	34	serve our state and nation; and
35	35	WHEREAS, The 2021 Texas A&M University policy interns
36	36	serving in Austin are Edwin "Dru" Barkis, Alexis Casiano,
37	37	Elizabeth Crisp, Sterling Crowdus, Alicia Dixon, Skyllar Duncan,
38	38	Richard "Eric" Ewing, Patrick "Henry" Featherston, Natalie
39	39	Flanagan, Kyrie Garlic, Tatum Hausman, Abigail Jablon, Emily
40	40	Jacobs, Ryan Jones, Brittany Keller, Eleanor Korth, Mihir
41	41	Kulkarni, Hanna Lisenbe, Christopher Livaudais, Gabriella Mata,
42	42	Shruthi Murali, Kyler Murphy, Brittany Reed, Elizabeth
43	43	Schneider, Whitney Sloan, Grace Swift, Victoria Torres, Nekaybaw
44	44	Watson, and Mariam Zaidi; and
45	45	WHEREAS, Through the years, the Agricultural and Natural
46	46	Resources Policy and Public Policy Internship Programs have
47	47	helped exceptional students deepen their understanding of
48	48	governmental operations while developing professional skills and
49	49	networks, and alumni have gone on to make vital contributions and
50	50	assume leadership roles in a variety of arenas; the outstanding
51	51	young people who are giving of their time and talents throughout
52	52	this legislative session can indeed take pride in their
53	53	achievements and their service to the Lone Star State; now,
54	54	therefore, be it
55	55	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
56	56	Legislature, hereby recognize the Texas A&M University
57	57	Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program and
58	58	the Public Policy Internship Program and commend the current
59	59	participants for their diligence and commitment; and, be it
60	60	further
61	61	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
62	62	prepared for the students as an expression of esteem from the
63	63	Texas Senate.
