11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 236
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the 29 Texas A&M University students who are providing
44 valuable support to the 87th Texas Legislature while gaining
55 experience in public service as members of the Agricultural and
66 Natural Resources Policy Internship Program and the Public
77 Policy Internship Program; and
88 WHEREAS, For three decades, the Agricultural and Natural
99 Resources Policy Internship Program has sent student interns to
1010 Austin and Washington, D.C., where they work on a wide array of
1111 issues; their strong background and interest in agriculture and
1212 natural resources allow them to offer specialized knowledge to
1313 legislators; the program was founded in response to a request by
1414 a member of the United States Congress for an intern who could
1515 assist his office with these matters, and it has since grown to
1616 include numerous congressional offices as well as the United
1717 States House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, the
1818 United States Department of Agriculture, and offices on the state
1919 level during legislative years; approximately 1,000 students
2020 have participated in semester-long internships; and
2121 WHEREAS, The Public Policy Internship Program, established
2222 in 1999, works with various colleges and departments to create an
2323 interdisciplinary environment for comprehensive academic
2424 training, research, and policy programming; interns in the
2525 nation's capital and in Austin serve in a variety of settings
2626 that align with their academic and professional goals; some 1,000
2727 students have participated in semester-long internships; and
2828 WHEREAS, Led by director Stephanie Webb, both internship
2929 programs select their highly qualified and dedicated
3030 participants through a rigorous application process; in addition
3131 to academic achievement, students must demonstrate their
3232 potential to take full advantage of the opportunities for
3333 scholarly and professional development as well as the desire to
3434 serve our state and nation; and
3535 WHEREAS, The 2021 Texas A&M University policy interns
3636 serving in Austin are Edwin "Dru" Barkis, Alexis Casiano,
3737 Elizabeth Crisp, Sterling Crowdus, Alicia Dixon, Skyllar Duncan,
3838 Richard "Eric" Ewing, Patrick "Henry" Featherston, Natalie
3939 Flanagan, Kyrie Garlic, Tatum Hausman, Abigail Jablon, Emily
4040 Jacobs, Ryan Jones, Brittany Keller, Eleanor Korth, Mihir
4141 Kulkarni, Hanna Lisenbe, Christopher Livaudais, Gabriella Mata,
4242 Shruthi Murali, Kyler Murphy, Brittany Reed, Elizabeth
4343 Schneider, Whitney Sloan, Grace Swift, Victoria Torres, Nekaybaw
4444 Watson, and Mariam Zaidi; and
4545 WHEREAS, Through the years, the Agricultural and Natural
4646 Resources Policy and Public Policy Internship Programs have
4747 helped exceptional students deepen their understanding of
4848 governmental operations while developing professional skills and
4949 networks, and alumni have gone on to make vital contributions and
5050 assume leadership roles in a variety of arenas; the outstanding
5151 young people who are giving of their time and talents throughout
5252 this legislative session can indeed take pride in their
5353 achievements and their service to the Lone Star State; now,
5454 therefore, be it
5555 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
5656 Legislature, hereby recognize the Texas A&M University
5757 Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program and
5858 the Public Policy Internship Program and commend the current
5959 participants for their diligence and commitment; and, be it
6060 further
6161 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
6262 prepared for the students as an expression of esteem from the
6363 Texas Senate.
