55 WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
66 generosity of restauranteur Ida Gonzales Ramos of San Antonio,
77 who passed away on February 7, 2020, at the age of 76; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of Nicolas and Paulita Gonzales, the
99 former Ida Gonzales was born in Tilden on September 5, 1943, and
1010 grew up with the companionship of four brothers, Cosme, Nicolas,
1111 Ruben, and Refugio, and four sisters, Maria, Casey, Dora, and
1212 Gloria; she married Richard Ramos, and they became the proud
1313 parents of three daughters, Brenda, Gina, and Jennifer; through
1414 the years, Ms. Ramos experienced the joy of welcoming into her
1515 treasured family five grandsons, Branden, Seth, Bryan, Stephon,
1616 and Solomon, as well as a great-grandson, Connor; she set an
1717 example of strength and determination for the younger
1818 generations and instilled in them the value of hard work; and
1919 WHEREAS, Ms. Ramos was the owner of El Torero Restaurant
2020 for more than 44 years, and she extended a warm welcome to all,
2121 including families, politicians, softball and dart teams,
2222 teachers from Riverside Park Elementary, and anyone who needed
2323 love and compassion, as well as a good meal; over the years, she
2424 became a mother figure to a host of people, offering hugs, a
2525 shoulder to cry on, wise counsel, or kind words of encouragement;
2626 she was a strong advocate for her Southside community, and she
2727 was especially dedicated to VFW Post No. 9186; and
2828 WHEREAS, Although Ida Ramos will be deeply missed, the
2929 passage of time will never diminish the joy and love that she
3030 brought into the lives of all who knew her; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3232 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Ida Gonzales Ramos
3333 and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and,
3434 be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3636 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3737 this day, it do so in memory of Ida Gonzales Ramos.
