| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The city of Muenster's 45th annual Germanfest, |

| 3 | 3 | | which is being held on April 23-25, 2021, offers a welcome |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | opportunity to pay tribute to the history of this popular |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | festival; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, German Catholic immigrants began settling in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Cooke County in the late 1870s, and in 1889, the city of Muenster |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | was established along the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railroad; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | today, many of the North Texas town's 1,600 residents are |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | descendants of those original settlers, and in 1976, the Muenster |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Chamber of Commerce staged the first Germanfest; the festival |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | celebrates Muenster's German heritage on the last full weekend of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | each April; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Each year, thousands of visitors are attracted to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | this popular three-day event for the opportunity to sample such |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | traditional German fare as sausages, cheeses, apple strudel, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | homemade breads, cakes, and pies, as well as a variety of German |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | beers; residents and visitors alike enjoy such activities as the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Metric Century Bicycle Rally, the 5k Germanfest Fun Run, and a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | sausage and rib cook-off; live music and dance are presented on |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | two stages from Friday through Sunday, while the children's stage |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | features performances on Saturday and Sunday afternoons; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By combining family friendly recreation with an |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | appreciation of Muenster's rich European heritage, the annual |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Germanfest has enlightened, entertained, and enriched countless |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Texans for nearly a half century; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 45th anniversary of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Germanfest and extend to its organizers, performers, and guests |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | sincere best wishes for a memorable and meaningful event; and, be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
