5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Melvin |
---|
6 | 6 | | Lacy Parkerson Sr. of Gladewater, who passed away on January 1, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2021, at the age of 88; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Melvin Parkerson was born in Edgewood on November |
---|
9 | 9 | | 15, 1932, to Jesse and Ludie Stanley Parkerson, and he grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | with the companionship of three siblings, Roxie, Flossie, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | Raymond; he served his country as a member of the United States |
---|
12 | 12 | | Army, where he was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division and |
---|
13 | 13 | | advanced to the level of jumpmaster; in his civilian life, he was |
---|
14 | 14 | | employed as a sheet metal worker, and he ultimately retired from |
---|
15 | 15 | | Transco out of Chicago; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Parkerson was a longtime member of |
---|
17 | 17 | | Clarksville City Baptist Church, where he served his |
---|
18 | 18 | | congregation as a deacon; he also gave back to the community by |
---|
19 | 19 | | supporting and mentoring local youth as a 4-H leader and as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, and he enjoyed being a |
---|
21 | 21 | | member of the Wood County Riding Club; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A loving and devoted family man, Mr. Parkerson |
---|
23 | 23 | | shared 63 years of marriage with his wife, Antoinette "Toni" |
---|
24 | 24 | | Smith Parkerson, who preceded him in death in 2018; the couple |
---|
25 | 25 | | raised three daughters, Deborah, Valerie, and Karen, and two |
---|
26 | 26 | | sons, Melvin and Leonard, and Mr. Parkerson also regarded |
---|
27 | 27 | | Pete Fasanello as one of his own children; he was further |
---|
28 | 28 | | blessed with 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives |
---|
30 | 30 | | and friends; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Although Melvin Parkerson is deeply missed, those |
---|
32 | 32 | | who held him dear will forever remember him with great admiration |
---|
33 | 33 | | and affection; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Melvin Lacy |

36 | 36 | | Parkerson Sr. and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his |

37 | 37 | | family: to his children, Deborah Weston and her husband, Wayne, |

38 | 38 | | Valerie Hamlin and her husband, Mark, Karen Foster and her |

39 | 39 | | husband, Larry, Melvin L. Parkerson Jr. and his wife, Becky, and |

40 | 40 | | Leonard R. Parkerson and his wife, Judy; to his honorary son, |

41 | 41 | | Pete Fasanello, and his wife, Tracy; to his sister, Roxie Black; |
