| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Samuel Eluemunoh, who won the 2021 state finals of the |

| 4 | 4 | | Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious competition is a nationwide |

| 6 | 6 | | project of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Foundation; organized in Texas by the Texas Commission on the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Arts, the contest helps high school students master public |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | literary heritage; this year's event featured renowned San |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Antonio poet Naomi Shihab Nye as the master of ceremonies; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Eluemunoh is a junior at Saint Mark's |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | School of Texas in Dallas; as state champion, he will receive a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | $200 prize and the opportunity to represent Texas in the national |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | competition; in addition, Saint Mark's School of Texas will |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | receive $500 for the purchase of poetry books for the school's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | library; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Eluemunoh is an exemplary young man, and he |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | can take great pride in the honor he has brought to his family, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | his school, and his community; it is truly fitting that he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | receive special recognition for his outstanding achievement; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, hereby commend Samuel Eluemunoh on his dedication |

| 25 | 25 | | and skill and extend to him congratulations on winning the Poetry |

| 26 | 26 | | Out Loud: National Recitation Contest state finals and best |
