| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Vanguard Academy Public Charter Schools for the school |

| 4 | 4 | | system's outstanding success and for its contributions to Rio |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Grande Valley communities during the COVID-19 pandemic; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Vanguard Academy school system opened its |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | first doors in 2001 at Templo Bethel, a campus building in Pharr, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas, that served 32 area students; in 2013, the school system |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | celebrated its first graduating class, which consisted of 16 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | students, and in 2020, 120 students graduated from Vanguard |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Academy secondary schools; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Vanguard Academy system consists of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | four elementary school campuses and three secondary school |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | campuses that serve 4,900 students in the cities of Pharr, Alamo, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and Edinburg; the institution's success has enabled the 2021 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | groundbreaking of two new locations, an additional secondary |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | school campus in Edinburg and an early childhood education center |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in Pharr; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Vanguard Academy Public Charter Schools is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | committed to helping the families and communities that each of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | its schools serve, as well as many who are not served by the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | system; the schools began providing meals to students and local |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | families at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | ensuing year, school personnel have distributed more than |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 700,000 meals to families in Rio Grande Valley communities; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The staff and educators in the Vanguard Academy |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | school system continue to uphold the founding principles of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | public service that have led to two decades of success in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | community partnerships and public education, and they can |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | reflect with pride on their first-rate achievements in the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | academic field; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend the educators, staff, and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | administrators of Vanguard Academy Public Charter Schools for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | helping to build a model charter school system and for their |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | generous service to local families during the COVID-19 pandemic; |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | the school system as an expression of esteem from the Texas |
|---|
