| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Joe Haliti of Joe's Italian Restaurant in Montgomery |

| 4 | 4 | | County for his generous community service during the COVID-19 |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | pandemic; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Joe's Italian Restaurant was one of the many |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | restaurants to close its dining space in the early days of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | pandemic; as owner Joe Haliti managed a limited curbside service, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | his heart went out to busy first responders and health care |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | workers in the region who might have trouble getting food easily |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | without the risk of exposure to the virus; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Joe worked with his brother and nephew to devise a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | plan during the initial wave of the pandemic, and with the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | generous support of community members, his restaurant was able to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | prepare and distribute 25,000 meals to frontline workers; the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | popular restaurant resumed its mission during the summer spike in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | COVID-19 cases and was able to prepare and donate more than |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 50,000 meals; this second round of meals extended the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | restaurant's outreach to include first responders and vulnerable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | community members in Montgomery, Harris, Jefferson, and Walker |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Counties; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Texans are known for their generous hearts and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | spirits; Joe Haliti and his crew of volunteers have exemplified |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the highest ideals of charitable service in a time of crisis, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | they are indeed deserving of recognition for their generous |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | support of Texas' first responders and of others in need; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Joe Haliti as a treasured citizen |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and commend him and all who helped Joe's Italian Restaurant to |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | donate nourishing meals to frontline workers and vulnerable |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 34 | 34 | | Joe Haliti as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
