| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Myrlan Coleman retired as an art instructor at |

| 3 | 3 | | Weatherford College in 2020, drawing to a close an outstanding |

| 4 | 4 | | tenure that spanned more than five decades; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, Ms. Coleman accepted a position in the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | audio/visual department of Weatherford College; a graduate of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | The University of Texas at Austin, she went on to earn a master's |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | degree from Texas Woman's University, and soon after, she became |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | an instructor at WC; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 51 years with the college, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Ms. Coleman demonstrated an outstanding commitment to her |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | students and distinguished herself as a caring and supportive |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | mentor; she has inspired many young artists, and in her last year |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as an educator, she hosted her 100th student art exhibition; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Coleman further benefited the college by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | serving as department chair from 1999 to 2005; in addition, she |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | was tasked with designing WC's annual Christmas card, and she |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | painted a portrait of Marjorie Black Alkek for the Alkek Fine |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Arts Center; among her many achievements, she was honored at the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Weatherford College annual employee awards dinner, and she |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | received the 2019 Presidential Service Award at the Presidential |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Luncheon; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Myrlan Coleman has made a profound and positive |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | difference in the lives of countless students, and she may indeed |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Myrlan Coleman on her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | retirement as an art instructor at Weatherford College and extend |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | prepared for Ms. Coleman as an expression of high regard from the |
