5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Frederick William Rusteberg, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | July 19, 2020, at the age of 74; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Brownsville, Fred Rusteberg was born |
---|
9 | 9 | | on July 1, 1946; he grew up on his family's tomato farm in Villa |
---|
10 | 10 | | Nueva, and he graduated from Brownsville High School; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Fred studied finance at Texas A&M University and |
---|
12 | 12 | | went on to complete graduate studies at Texas Tech University, |
---|
13 | 13 | | where he met the love of his life, Frances Hill; he served with |
---|
14 | 14 | | distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, |
---|
15 | 15 | | and he returned to his hometown with his cherished wife to begin |
---|
16 | 16 | | his career and raise their family; they were blessed with two |
---|
17 | 17 | | children and two grandchildren, who were a source of much pride |
---|
18 | 18 | | and joy for him; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Fred enjoyed a distinguished career in banking, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and he served as founding president and chief executive officer |
---|
21 | 21 | | of IBC Bank in Brownsville for more than 35 years; a generous |
---|
22 | 22 | | philanthropist with a heart for public education, he helped raise |
---|
23 | 23 | | millions of dollars for schools in South Texas, and he brought |
---|
24 | 24 | | new opportunities to students through his leadership roles in the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Brownsville Independent School District and The University of |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas Rio Grande Valley; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Fred earned numerous local and state accolades |
---|
28 | 28 | | for his civic leadership and for his service to Texas |
---|
29 | 29 | | communities, and he was honored with a Congressional Record by |
---|
30 | 30 | | the United States Congress; he was an avid golfer, and he was |
---|
31 | 31 | | known by his friends and colleagues as a patient mentor and a man |
---|
32 | 32 | | of uncompromising integrity; he delighted in traveling the world |
---|
33 | 33 | | with his wife, and he treasured time spent with his family; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Fred Rusteberg was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | grandfather and an esteemed member of the Brownsville community; |
---|
36 | 36 | | he was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered with great |
---|
37 | 37 | | respect and admiration by all who were privileged to share in his |
---|
38 | 38 | | life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
41 | 41 | | family of Frederick William Rusteberg; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
43 | 43 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
45 | 45 | | memory of Fred Rusteberg. |
