SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 344 In Memory of Oscar De Luna WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Oscar De Luna, who died March 25, 2021, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was an exemplary citizen and a dedicated public servant who was widely respected and admired for his many contributions to the people of San Perlita and Willacy County; and WHEREAS, He was born on August 10, 1956, in Raymondville, to Jose and Teresa De Luna; he and his beloved wife of 48 years, Perla De Luna, were blessed with three sons, Oscar De Luna Jr., Gabriel De Luna, and Dominic De Luna; he was also blessed with five grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Trey, Daemian, and Izabella, and a great-grandchild, Beau, who were a source of much pride and joy for him; and WHEREAS, Mr. De Luna was dedicated to public service, and he served for 26 years as mayor of San Perlita; under his leadership, the city saw such improvements as the establishment of a fire department and fire station and the creation of a community center; and WHEREAS, In 2014, he was elected to the Willacy County Commissioners Court to represent Precinct 2, and he was reelected in 2018; he played an important role in procuring numerous grants for projects to improve the county's infrastructure, and he was active in a number of organizations dedicated to supporting county functions; and WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was a loving family man and a tireless advocate for his constituents, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Oscar De Luna; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Oscar De Luna.
