| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Oscar De Luna, who died March 25, 2021, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 64; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was an exemplary citizen and a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | dedicated public servant who was widely respected and admired for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | his many contributions to the people of San Perlita and Willacy |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | County; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He was born on August 10, 1956, in Raymondville, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to Jose and Teresa De Luna; he and his beloved wife of 48 years, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Perla De Luna, were blessed with three sons, Oscar De Luna Jr., |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Gabriel De Luna, and Dominic De Luna; he was also blessed with |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | five grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Trey, Daemian, and Izabella, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and a great-grandchild, Beau, who were a source of much pride and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | joy for him; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. De Luna was dedicated to public service, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | he served for 26 years as mayor of San Perlita; under his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | leadership, the city saw such improvements as the establishment |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of a fire department and fire station and the creation of a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community center; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In 2014, he was elected to the Willacy County |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Commissioners Court to represent Precinct 2, and he was reelected |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | in 2018; he played an important role in procuring numerous grants |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for projects to improve the county's infrastructure, and he was |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | active in a number of organizations dedicated to supporting |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | county functions; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Oscar De Luna was a loving family man and a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | tireless advocate for his constituents, and he leaves behind |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | memories that will be treasured forever by all who were |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | family of Oscar De Luna; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | memory of Oscar De Luna. |
