5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Troy Evan Davis, who died October 20, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2018, at the age of 25; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Troy Davis was born on June 9, 1993, in Harlingen, |
---|
9 | 9 | | the youngest child of Alvin Earl Davis Sr. and Shamina Davis; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | discovered a talent for chess in middle school, and he became a |
---|
11 | 11 | | member of state and national championship-winning teams; while |
---|
12 | 12 | | attending Harlingen High School South, he was a member of debate |
---|
13 | 13 | | teams that won local, state, and national championships; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After high school, he enlisted in the United States |
---|
15 | 15 | | Army and studied to become a field and combat medic, and after |
---|
16 | 16 | | graduating from advanced training classes with honors, he was |
---|
17 | 17 | | assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he served his country |
---|
18 | 18 | | with distinction until his honorable discharge in 2015; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Upon his return to Harlingen, he enlisted in the |
---|
20 | 20 | | United States Army Reserve with plans to attend college and |
---|
21 | 21 | | qualify for Officers Candidate School; while attending Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | State Technical College, he served as vice president of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | school's veteran students organization; he graduated with an |
---|
24 | 24 | | associate's degree in biology in 2018 and was accepted as a |
---|
25 | 25 | | student at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; he also |
---|
26 | 26 | | took a position at Valley Baptist Medical Center; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Troy was a young man of kindness, patience, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | sensitivity, and he had a unique ability to make everyone he met |
---|
29 | 29 | | feel special; he was smart and witty and was beloved by many, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | he left behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who |
---|
31 | 31 | | were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Troy Evan Davis; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
38 | 38 | | memory of Troy Davis. |
