44 Troy Evan Davis
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Troy Evan Davis, who died October 20,
77 2018, at the age of 25; and
88 WHEREAS, Troy Davis was born on June 9, 1993, in Harlingen,
99 the youngest child of Alvin Earl Davis Sr. and Shamina Davis; he
1010 discovered a talent for chess in middle school, and he became a
1111 member of state and national championship-winning teams; while
1212 attending Harlingen High School South, he was a member of debate
1313 teams that won local, state, and national championships; and
1414 WHEREAS, After high school, he enlisted in the United States
1515 Army and studied to become a field and combat medic, and after
1616 graduating from advanced training classes with honors, he was
1717 assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he served his country
1818 with distinction until his honorable discharge in 2015; and
1919 WHEREAS, Upon his return to Harlingen, he enlisted in the
2020 United States Army Reserve with plans to attend college and
2121 qualify for Officers Candidate School; while attending Texas
2222 State Technical College, he served as vice president of the
2323 school's veteran students organization; he graduated with an
2424 associate's degree in biology in 2018 and was accepted as a
2525 student at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; he also
2626 took a position at Valley Baptist Medical Center; and
2727 WHEREAS, Troy was a young man of kindness, patience, and
2828 sensitivity, and he had a unique ability to make everyone he met
2929 feel special; he was smart and witty and was beloved by many, and
3030 he left behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who
3131 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Troy Evan Davis; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Troy Davis.
