| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the City of Florence, which is the location of the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | prehistoric Gault Site; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Florence is home to the Gault Archaeological |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Site, which contains artifacts that have been scientifically |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | dated to an era from between 16,000 and 20,000 years ago; in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | addition, the 23 archaeological cultures identified at the Gault |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Site indicate a nearly continuous human occupation; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The area features ideal conditions for human |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | habitation, including abundant water sources, an ecotone capable |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of supporting plentiful food resources, and large amounts of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Edwards chert for toolmaking and trade; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Gault Site is one of the oldest archaeological |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | sites in North America and one of the few that has been associated |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | with a community; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The people of Florence are justifiably proud of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the historic nature of the Gault Archaeological Site, and it is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | truly fitting that they receive special recognition for their |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | stewardship of this significant setting; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the City of Florence as the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | location of an archaeological treasure dating back to 20,000 |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | years ago; and, be it further |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
