44 Carl Glen Newstrom
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Carl Glen Newstrom, who died
77 January 7, 2021, at the age of 59; and
88 WHEREAS, Carl Newstrom was born September 30, 1961, in
99 Elgin; he learned the value of hard work at a young age by working
1010 on area farms, and he graduated from Elgin High School in 1980; he
1111 was a lifelong resident of Elgin and took great pride in serving
1212 his community; and
1313 WHEREAS, He enjoyed a productive 30-year career in state
1414 service with the Texas Department of Public Safety; he was also a
1515 longtime member of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, where he
1616 held numerous leadership positions; he served as the
1717 department's board member, vice president, and president, and in
1818 2001, he was named Fireman of the Year; he was a well-known
1919 community figure and was elected to serve three terms on the
2020 Bastrop-Travis Counties Emergency Services District Number 1
2121 Board; and
2222 WHEREAS, He married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1986,
2323 and they enjoyed 34 years of marriage together; they were blessed
2424 with two daughters, Amanda Brooke Sanchez and Ashley Paige
2525 DeWitt, and his grandsons, Kyle and Oakley, were a source of much
2626 pride and joy for him; and
2727 WHEREAS, A man of courage, kindness, and generosity, he
2828 gave unselfishly to others; he was noted for his love of the
2929 outdoors, his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest, and
3030 his commitment to public service; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3232 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
3333 family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Carl Glen Newstrom; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Carl Newstrom.
