| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Carl Glen Newstrom, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | January 7, 2021, at the age of 59; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Carl Newstrom was born September 30, 1961, in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Elgin; he learned the value of hard work at a young age by working |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | on area farms, and he graduated from Elgin High School in 1980; he |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | was a lifelong resident of Elgin and took great pride in serving |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | his community; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He enjoyed a productive 30-year career in state |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | service with the Texas Department of Public Safety; he was also a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | longtime member of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, where he |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | held numerous leadership positions; he served as the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | department's board member, vice president, and president, and in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 2001, he was named Fireman of the Year; he was a well-known |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | community figure and was elected to serve three terms on the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Bastrop-Travis Counties Emergency Services District Number 1 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Board; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, He married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1986, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and they enjoyed 34 years of marriage together; they were blessed |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | with two daughters, Amanda Brooke Sanchez and Ashley Paige |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | DeWitt, and his grandsons, Kyle and Oakley, were a source of much |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | pride and joy for him; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, kindness, and generosity, he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | gave unselfishly to others; he was noted for his love of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | outdoors, his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest, and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his commitment to public service; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | family of Carl Glen Newstrom; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |

| 40 | 40 | | memory of Carl Newstrom. |
