1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 399
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize all associated with the Healthy South Texas program for
4	4	their outstanding work during the COVID-19 pandemic; and
5	5	WHEREAS, The Healthy South Texas program is a partnership
6	6	between the Texas A&M Health Science Center and Texas A&M
7	7	AgriLife; created in 2019 under the auspices of the Healthy Texas
8	8	Institute, the organization was the first to respond to Governor
9	9	Greg Abbott's call for agencies to assist the Texas Department of
10	10	State Health Services in contact tracing to help stem the tide of
11	11	the COVID-19 pandemic; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Beginning in June of 2020, Healthy South Texas
13	13	staff members, along with the staffs of other programs in The
14	14	Texas A&M University System, contacted more than 30,000
15	15	individuals who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 or exposed to
16	16	the virus; the staff traced potential transmission and ensured
17	17	those individuals were aware of the Centers for Disease
18	18	Control and Prevention guidelines on COVID-19 prevention and
19	19	recovery; and
20	20	WHEREAS, The staff of Healthy South Texas also recognized
21	21	that many people still needed education on preventing and
22	22	managing chronic diseases and help with obtaining medication and
23	23	supplies; the organization quickly adopted virtual platforms and
24	24	online learning systems to educate the public; and
25	25	WHEREAS, The Healthy South Texas program is truly
26	26	deserving of special recognition for its resilience and
27	27	commitment during an unprecedented public health crisis; now,
28	28	therefore, be it
29	29	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
30	30	Legislature, hereby commend the Healthy South Texas program on
31	31	its outstanding contributions to the state during the COVID-19
32	32	pandemic and extend to the program's management and staff best
33	33	wishes for continued success; and, be it further
34	34	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
35	35	this exemplary program as an expression of esteem from the
36	36	Texas Senate.
