SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 401 In Memory of Andrew Sharp Peacock WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Andrew Sharp Peacock, an esteemed Australian statesman and Austin resident, who died April 16, 2021, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, Andrew Peacock was born in Melbourne, Australia, on February 13, 1939; he attended Scotch College before earning his law degree from the prestigious University of Melbourne; he was a devoted father to his three daughters, Caroline Cordeaux, Ann Peacock, and Jane Chapple-Hyam, and a devoted grandfather to Andrew Kroger, Woody Kroger, and Christopher Cordeaux; he married his beloved wife, Penne Korth Peacock, in 2002; and WHEREAS, Mr. Peacock was elected to the Australian Parliament at the age of 27, and three years later, in 1969, he was appointed minister for the army; he went on to develop a career of excellence in multiple cabinet positions, and he served as leader of the Liberal Party from 1983 to 1985 and from 1989 to 1990; and WHEREAS, Deeply knowledgeable about world affairs, he was a revered statesman who was known for his razor-sharp wit, and during his 30 years in politics, many international leaders sought his wise counsel; in 1997, he was appointed to serve as Australia's ambassador to the United States, and he handled his many responsibilities skillfully until the end of his service in 1999; he also served as president of Boeing Australia, and he and his wife moved to Austin after his retirement; he then became a highly regarded board member of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and he continued to regularly visit Australia, where he maintained his citizenship; and WHEREAS, Andrew Peacock embraced life with joy and vigor, and he had an extraordinary career as a politician and diplomat that was driven and defined by his sincere love of his country; he was a widely respected international figure and was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will long be treasured by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Andrew Sharp Peacock; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Andrew Peacock.
