| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mary Lee Feitsam Najvar, a beloved Texan and Shiner |

| 4 | 4 | | resident, who earned the distinction of becoming the youngest |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | licensed mortician in the State of Texas when she was 21 years |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | old; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 10, 1924, Mary Lee Feitsam grew |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | up in Weimar, Texas; she moved to Shiner with her family, and her |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | mother purchased the Shiner Gazette newspaper; she graduated |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with honors from Saint Ludmila's Academy in Shiner, and she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | studied at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She went on to study at the Landig College of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Mortuary Science in Houston, and she completed two years of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | apprenticeship with the Charles Hanavan Funeral Parlor in San |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Antonio; she earned a perfect score on her final tests, and at the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | age of 21, she passed the Texas State Board of Embalmers exam and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | became the youngest person in the state to earn a mortician's |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | license; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This gracious and accomplished lady has been |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | blessed with a rewarding life full of memorable experiences, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | she has been privileged to witness historic events that many |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | people only read about in history books; she is now 97 years old, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and there is much to be learned from the wisdom she has gained |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | over the years; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, She is indeed deserving of special recognition |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for a life well lived and for her notable achievement of becoming |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the state's youngest licensed mortician; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby honor Mary Lee Feitsam Najvar as a cherished |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | member of her family and community and a treasured citizen of the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Lone Star State; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
