| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Elgin in mourning the loss of Willie Moses Simmons |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | III, whose life was tragically cut short on April 18, 2021; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Austin on January 1, 2003, Willie Simmons |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was a cherished son of Vanissa Penson and Willie Simmons Jr. and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | brother to Sharissa, Destiny, Sierra, and Joshua; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Willie was an exceptional student and a talented |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | athlete at Elgin High School, where he served as captain of the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | varsity football team; he was a three-star outside linebacker, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | he had turned down multiple collegiate recruitment offers and made |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | plans to hone his skills at the University of North Texas; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Willie faithfully attended |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | weekly Bible study at First Baptist Church in Elgin; he was a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | gentle spirit who inspired others through his sincere love of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | family and through the kindness he bestowed on friends and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | strangers alike; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This bright and gifted young man was a beloved |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | member of the Elgin community; he enriched the lives of all who |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | knew him, and he leaves behind memories that will live on in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hearts of his many friends and loved ones; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | family of Willie Moses Simmons III; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
