55 WHEREAS, The life of a respected and dedicated attorney
66 drew to a close with the passing of Roland R. Esparza of San
77 Antonio on January 22, 2021, at the age of 53; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on November 4, 1967, to Roy and Anita
99 Esparza, Roland Esparza grew up with the companionship of a
1010 brother, Mario, and three sisters, Leticia, Michele, and
1111 Caroline; after graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in
1212 San Antonio in 1986, he earned his bachelor's degree from The
1313 University of Texas at Austin in 1989 and then enrolled at the
1414 University of Houston Law Center, where he received a juris
1515 doctorate in 1992; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza established a successful law
1717 practice, distinguishing himself as a skillful and highly
1818 effective advocate for his clients, and he served as a municipal
1919 court judge for the City of San Antonio from 1997 to 2003; highly
2020 respected by his peers, he served on two committees for the San
2121 Antonio Bar Association and also held membership in the Mexican
2222 American Bar Association; each year since 2018, he had been
2323 recognized by Scene In S.A. magazine as part of its "Best S.A.
2424 Lawyers" feature, and he was further honored with a Client's
2525 Choice Award; and
2626 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Esparza enjoyed the
2727 love and support of Amanda L. Muth, and the relationship they
2828 shared was a source of much happiness and fulfillment to him; he
2929 relished spending time with his family and taking them on
3030 memorable vacations, and he looked forward to his weekly golf and
3131 dinner outings with friends; possessing a positive outlook and a
3232 strong sense of faith, he was also beloved for his generosity and
3333 humble attitude; and
3434 WHEREAS, Roland R. Esparza was an accomplished attorney
3535 who was deeply devoted to the people he served and to his circle
3636 of loved ones and friends, and he will forever be a source of
3737 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3939 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Roland R. Esparza
4040 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4141 soul mate, Amanda L. Muth; to his mother, Anita R. Esparza; to his
4242 brother, Mario R. Esparza, and his wife, Deborah; to his sisters,
4343 Leticia A. Esparza, Michele M. Rodriguez and her husband, Ross,
4444 and Caroline R. Esparza-Pena and her husband, Alexander; to his
4545 nieces and nephews, Felicia D. Menchaca and her husband,
4646 Reginald, Reginald C. Menchaca, Serenity Menchaca, Katelyn A.
4747 Esparza, Myrella I. Rodriguez, Catalina S. Rodriguez, Alexander
4848 G. Pena Jr., Arianna A. Pena, Jacqueline R. Silva, and Benito
4949 Silva IV; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it

5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5353 this day, it do so in memory of Roland Esparza.
