SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 444 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd and to recognize August 16, 2021, as Beverlee Herd Day; and WHEREAS, Born August 16, 1936, Beverlee Barnes Herd was a native of Tennessee; she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing, and she enjoyed a rewarding career teaching obstetrics and gynecology at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis; she and her husband, Dr. James Francis Herd, later moved to Fort Worth, and Mrs. Herd distinguished herself as a tireless volunteer by contributing her time and leadership to numerous professional associations, cultural arts institutions, and charitable organizations devoted to serving women and children; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd dedicated her time and energy to serving the medical community by volunteering with the Tarrant County Medical Alliance, and she went on to serve as president of the organization; she served in numerous committee and board positions for the Texas Medical Association Alliance and the Texas Medical Association, and she served terms as president for both of the professional groups; she also served on the Cook Children's Medical Center Board of Directors and was board president for two years; she and Dr. Herd raised four children and were blessed with 10 grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd was an active leader at the First Methodist Church, and she worked extensively with the Girl Scouts of America and the YWCA; she cofounded the YWCA's Women Who Care Share initiative, and the organization honored her selfless service by establishing the Beverlee Herd Legacy Award; and WHEREAS, Beverlee Herd passed away on November 22, 2020; she was a truly outstanding citizen who exemplified the highest ideals of volunteer service, and her outstanding contributions to the community will continue to benefit Texans long into the future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd for her extraordinary commitment of service to her community and encourage Texans throughout the state to learn more about her impressive legacy on Beverlee Herd Day; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of the late Beverlee Herd.
