2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd and to recognize August |
---|
4 | 4 | | 16, 2021, as Beverlee Herd Day; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Born August 16, 1936, Beverlee Barnes Herd was a |
---|
6 | 6 | | native of Tennessee; she earned a bachelor of science degree in |
---|
7 | 7 | | nursing, and she enjoyed a rewarding career teaching obstetrics and |
---|
8 | 8 | | gynecology at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis; |
---|
9 | 9 | | she and her husband, Dr. James Francis Herd, later moved to Fort |
---|
10 | 10 | | Worth, and Mrs. Herd distinguished herself as a tireless volunteer |
---|
11 | 11 | | by contributing her time and leadership to numerous professional |
---|
12 | 12 | | associations, cultural arts institutions, and charitable |
---|
13 | 13 | | organizations devoted to serving women and children; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd dedicated her time and energy to |
---|
15 | 15 | | serving the medical community by volunteering with the Tarrant |
---|
16 | 16 | | County Medical Alliance, and she went on to serve as president of |
---|
17 | 17 | | the organization; she served in numerous committee and board |
---|
18 | 18 | | positions for the Texas Medical Association Alliance and the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Texas Medical Association, and she served terms as president for |
---|
20 | 20 | | both of the professional groups; she also served on the Cook |
---|
21 | 21 | | Children's Medical Center Board of Directors and was board |
---|
22 | 22 | | president for two years; she and Dr. Herd raised four children |
---|
23 | 23 | | and were blessed with 10 grandchildren; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd was an active leader at the First |
---|
25 | 25 | | Methodist Church, and she worked extensively with the Girl Scouts |
---|
26 | 26 | | of America and the YWCA; she cofounded the YWCA's Women Who Care |
---|
27 | 27 | | Share initiative, and the organization honored her selfless |
---|
28 | 28 | | service by establishing the Beverlee Herd Legacy Award; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Beverlee Herd passed away on November 22, 2020; |
---|
30 | 30 | | she was a truly outstanding citizen who exemplified the highest |
---|
31 | 31 | | ideals of volunteer service, and her outstanding contributions |
---|
32 | 32 | | to the community will continue to benefit Texans long into the |
---|
33 | 33 | | future; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd for |
---|
36 | 36 | | her extraordinary commitment of service to her community and |
---|
37 | 37 | | encourage Texans throughout the state to learn more about her |
---|
38 | 38 | | impressive legacy on Beverlee Herd Day; and, be it further |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
---|
40 | 40 | | honor of the late Beverlee Herd. |
