11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 444
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd and to recognize August
44 16, 2021, as Beverlee Herd Day; and
55 WHEREAS, Born August 16, 1936, Beverlee Barnes Herd was a
66 native of Tennessee; she earned a bachelor of science degree in
77 nursing, and she enjoyed a rewarding career teaching obstetrics and
88 gynecology at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis;
99 she and her husband, Dr. James Francis Herd, later moved to Fort
1010 Worth, and Mrs. Herd distinguished herself as a tireless volunteer
1111 by contributing her time and leadership to numerous professional
1212 associations, cultural arts institutions, and charitable
1313 organizations devoted to serving women and children; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd dedicated her time and energy to
1515 serving the medical community by volunteering with the Tarrant
1616 County Medical Alliance, and she went on to serve as president of
1717 the organization; she served in numerous committee and board
1818 positions for the Texas Medical Association Alliance and the
1919 Texas Medical Association, and she served terms as president for
2020 both of the professional groups; she also served on the Cook
2121 Children's Medical Center Board of Directors and was board
2222 president for two years; she and Dr. Herd raised four children
2323 and were blessed with 10 grandchildren; and
2424 WHEREAS, Mrs. Herd was an active leader at the First
2525 Methodist Church, and she worked extensively with the Girl Scouts
2626 of America and the YWCA; she cofounded the YWCA's Women Who Care
2727 Share initiative, and the organization honored her selfless
2828 service by establishing the Beverlee Herd Legacy Award; and
2929 WHEREAS, Beverlee Herd passed away on November 22, 2020;
3030 she was a truly outstanding citizen who exemplified the highest
3131 ideals of volunteer service, and her outstanding contributions
3232 to the community will continue to benefit Texans long into the
3333 future; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3535 Legislature, hereby honor the late Beverlee Ruth Barnes Herd for
3636 her extraordinary commitment of service to her community and
3737 encourage Texans throughout the state to learn more about her
3838 impressive legacy on Beverlee Herd Day; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
4040 honor of the late Beverlee Herd.
