SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 451 In Memory of Ronald James Whitlock WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Ronald James "Jimmy" Whitlock, a beloved citizen of Lyford, Texas, who died April 29, 2021, at the age of 41; and WHEREAS, The son of Anna and Ronny Whitlock, Jimmy Whitlock was born in Houston; he attended Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi during his early years, and he moved to Kerrville with his family during his youth; he began shaping a future in broadcasting during middle school by serving as a deejay with the Jimmy Whitlock Show on KITE Radio, and he later attended Tivy High School; and WHEREAS, Jimmy followed in his father's footsteps by pursuing a career in broadcasting, and he distinguished himself for professional excellence as a newswriter, editor, researcher, and executive producer in the Rio Grande Valley; he was a cofounder and the executive producer of the Valley Newsline with Ron Whitlock on KRGV-TV News Channel 5; the popular news program was renamed I Witness Newsline with Ron Whitlock, and the show later migrated to KVEO-TV and aired as Ron Whitlock Reports after Meet the Press on Sunday mornings; and WHEREAS, Jimmy was known by his friends and colleagues for his compassionate nature, and he used his position in news production to advocate for the vulnerable and to shed light on the unique needs of the people of the Rio Grande Valley; he played an integral role in passing needed tort reform during the 2003 legislative session, and his work advocating the restoration of Children's Health Insurance Program funding in the Rio Grande Valley helped to reconnect thousands of local children to needed medical care; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Jimmy Whitlock shared a joyful marriage with Lorena Whitlock, and they were blessed with a son, Elijah Noe Whitlock; he was a man of great wisdom, humor, and generosity and was an esteemed member of the community, and his memory will live on fondly in the hearts of his many friends and loved ones; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Ronald James "Jimmy" Whitlock; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy Whitlock.
