1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 460
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Mike Munoz, Humberto Saenz Jr., and Santiago "Jimmy"
4	4	Martinez in honor of the 50th anniversary of their election to
5	5	the Beeville City Council; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Mike Munoz and Jimmy Martinez were elected to the
7	7	Beeville City Council in 1970 and joined recently elected
8	8	Humberto Saenz to create the first Hispanic majority on the
9	9	council; these exemplary public servants each went on to lead
10	10	rewarding and productive careers in service to the City of
11	11	Beeville and Bee County, and they have each made a positive
12	12	impact on the communities they serve and on the lives of Bee
13	13	County residents; and
14	14	WHEREAS, Following the 1970 city council election,
15	15	Humberto Saenz was appointed mayor, and together, these three
16	16	dedicated community advocates began working to ensure that all
17	17	citizens of Beeville would be provided with such essential
18	18	infrastructure and public services as paved streets, clean
19	19	water, sewer and drainage systems, safe housing, and street
20	20	lights; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Humberto Saenz served the citizens of Beeville
22	22	with distinction as the city's first Hispanic mayor, and he later
23	23	served as a city employee from 1988 until his retirement in 2017;
24	24	and
25	25	WHEREAS, Mike Munoz served two terms of office as a member
26	26	of the city council from 1970 to 1974, and he served as a building
27	27	inspection official for the city's Community Development
28	28	Department for 27 years; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Jimmy Martinez went on to serve honorably as
30	30	county judge for Bee County for many years; his commitment to
31	31	public service never wavered, despite attempts to intimidate and
32	32	discredit him by his adversaries and local media; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Mike Munoz, Humberto Saenz, and Jimmy Martinez
34	34	were elected at a time when members of the Hispanic community
35	35	faced formidable obstacles in the effort to seek representation
36	36	and make their voices heard; their historic election to the city
37	37	council paved the way for others to follow, and their notable
38	38	achievements have set an admirable example of leadership and
39	39	community advocacy; and
40	40	WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that they receive special
41	41	recognition for their inspiring accomplishments and commitment
42	42	to public service in honor of the 50th anniversary of their
43	43	historic election; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
45	45	Legislature, hereby commend Mike Munoz, Humberto Saenz Jr., and
46	46	Jimmy Martinez on their outstanding contributions to the people
47	47	of Beeville and Bee County and pay tribute to them in recognition
48	48	of the 50th anniversary of their election to the Beeville City
49	49	Council; and, be it further
50	50	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
51	51	them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
