1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 473
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride
3	3	in honoring the Sam Houston State University football team for
4	4	winning the 2021 national championship in the National
5	5	Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Championship
6	6	Subdivision; and
7	7	WHEREAS, The Sam Houston State University Bearkats
8	8	prevailed despite heavy thunderstorms and early game deficits to
9	9	seal their 23-21 championship game against number-one seeded
10	10	South Dakota State University at the Toyota Center in Frisco; the
11	11	riveting game ended with only 16 seconds left on the clock and
12	12	resulted in the first Football Championship Subdivision national
13	13	title for Sam Houston State University and for Texas since the
14	14	tournament's inception; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the team faced obstacles
16	16	due to COVID-19 restrictions, athletic facility renovations, and
17	17	the massive February snowstorm; team members were able to
18	18	overcome these challenges, and the Bearkats enjoyed notable
19	19	victories against undefeated Big South champion Monmouth
20	20	University and eight-time national champion North Dakota State
21	21	University; and
22	22	WHEREAS, The Bearkats have honed their unparalleled skills
23	23	under the superior guidance of head coach K. C. Keeler, who is the
24	24	first coach to win a national championship in the FCS subdivision
25	25	at two schools and is the winningest postseason coach in FCS
26	26	history; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Sam Houston State University and Texans across
28	28	the state are immensely proud of this exceptional football team
29	29	for its impressive season and fine sportsmanship; all team
30	30	members are deserving of special recognition for their
31	31	contributions to the team's historic achievement; now,
32	32	therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
34	34	Legislature, hereby commend the Sam Houston State University
35	35	football team members, coaches, and staff for the Bearkats'
36	36	outstanding season and extend congratulations to them on winning
37	37	the 2021 NCAA Division 1 FCS national championship title; and, be
38	38	it further
39	39	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
40	40	the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
