| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay |

| 3 | 3 | | tribute to the Rivas family of Mission for their legacy of |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | service in the United States Armed Forces; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Five of the eight children of Dario Rivas Sr. and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Catalina Blanco Rivas served the nation with distinction as |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | members of the United States Marine Corps between 1953 and 1984; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The late Private Rebecca Rivas served with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Women's Marine Headquarters during the Korean War era and was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | stationed at Camp Pendleton in California; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The late Sergeant Jose Rivas served in the United |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1967 and was a member of the 1st |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Marine Air Wing stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Dario Rivas Jr. served from 1964 to 1968 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | with the 1st and 3rd Marine Shore Party Battalion in Vietnam; he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | qualified as an expert rifleman for three consecutive years, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he was a part of the first division of marine corps troops to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | arrive in Vietnam; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Ruben Rivas served with the 3rd |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Marine Recon Battalion in 1968 and 1969 in Vietnam's Quang Tri |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Province, and he was wounded in action when his squad was |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | ambushed by Vietnamese troops; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Roberto Rivas served from 1980 to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 1984 with the Marine Field Service Support Group at Camp |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Pendleton and in South Korea; his decorations include the Good |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Conduct Medal, and his three sons have all served in the United |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | States military; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Rivas family on |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | their selfless military service and their outstanding commitment |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to preserving and defending our nation's democratic ideals; and, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 35 | 35 | | the family as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
