55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Dr. Pinckney Clift Price, who died
77 February 19, 2021, at the age of 97; and
88 WHEREAS, Clift Price was born on February 8, 1924, in
99 Bonham; he grew up in communities across Texas and Arkansas, and
1010 he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1940;
1111 at the age of 16, he entered The University of Texas at Austin,
1212 where he excelled academically; and
1313 WHEREAS, After his medical training at The University of
1414 Texas Medical Branch and a pediatric residency in Galveston, he
1515 served with distinction in the United States Navy during the
1616 Korean War; and
1717 WHEREAS, Following his military service, he moved with his
1818 family to Austin and began his practice in pediatric medicine
1919 with the Children's Medical Center; after 24 years of private
2020 practice, he became chief of Texas Maternal and Child Health; he
2121 later served for a decade as the associate commissioner of
2222 Personal Health Service for the Texas Health Department; and
2323 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished medical career, he
2424 focused on improving the health and well-being of all children;
2525 he played an important role in the campaign to fluoridate
2626 Austin's water supply, and during his time in state service, he
2727 worked with doctors in Russia and China to help them learn modern
2828 hygienic practices; he also worked for years on Rotary Club efforts
2929 to establish a tuberculosis clinic in Reynosa, Mexico; and
3030 WHEREAS, Dr. Price was active in a wide range of
3131 professional and civic organizations, including the Texas
3232 Medical Association, the Texas Pediatric Society, the Center for
3333 Child Protection, the Barbara Jordan Foundation, the Austin
3434 University Rotary Club, the Austin Yacht Club, the Headliners
3535 Club, and many others; he was a founding member of Springboard, an
3636 organization established for improving childhood literacy; and
3737 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3838 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
3939 his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
4141 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4242 family of Dr. Pinckney Clift Price; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4444 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4545 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4646 memory of Dr. Clift Price.
