5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Pinckney Clift Price, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | February 19, 2021, at the age of 97; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Clift Price was born on February 8, 1924, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Bonham; he grew up in communities across Texas and Arkansas, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1940; |
---|
11 | 11 | | at the age of 16, he entered The University of Texas at Austin, |
---|
12 | 12 | | where he excelled academically; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After his medical training at The University of |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas Medical Branch and a pediatric residency in Galveston, he |
---|
15 | 15 | | served with distinction in the United States Navy during the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Korean War; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, he moved with his |
---|
18 | 18 | | family to Austin and began his practice in pediatric medicine |
---|
19 | 19 | | with the Children's Medical Center; after 24 years of private |
---|
20 | 20 | | practice, he became chief of Texas Maternal and Child Health; he |
---|
21 | 21 | | later served for a decade as the associate commissioner of |
---|
22 | 22 | | Personal Health Service for the Texas Health Department; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished medical career, he |
---|
24 | 24 | | focused on improving the health and well-being of all children; |
---|
25 | 25 | | he played an important role in the campaign to fluoridate |
---|
26 | 26 | | Austin's water supply, and during his time in state service, he |
---|
27 | 27 | | worked with doctors in Russia and China to help them learn modern |
---|
28 | 28 | | hygienic practices; he also worked for years on Rotary Club efforts |
---|
29 | 29 | | to establish a tuberculosis clinic in Reynosa, Mexico; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Price was active in a wide range of |
---|
31 | 31 | | professional and civic organizations, including the Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Medical Association, the Texas Pediatric Society, the Center for |
---|
33 | 33 | | Child Protection, the Barbara Jordan Foundation, the Austin |
---|
34 | 34 | | University Rotary Club, the Austin Yacht Club, the Headliners |
---|
35 | 35 | | Club, and many others; he was a founding member of Springboard, an |
---|
36 | 36 | | organization established for improving childhood literacy; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
---|
39 | 39 | | his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
42 | 42 | | family of Dr. Pinckney Clift Price; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
44 | 44 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
46 | 46 | | memory of Dr. Clift Price. |
