5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Samuel Alexander Leonard of the Concho |

6 | 6 | | County Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty on May 10, |

7 | 7 | | 2021, at the age of 26, and the tragic passing of this exemplary |

8 | 8 | | officer is a tremendous loss to his family, his department, and |

9 | 9 | | his community; and |

10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The cherished son of Randy and Letha Leonard, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Samuel Leonard was born in Lubbock on July 26, 1994, and he grew |
---|
12 | 12 | | up with the companionship of three siblings, Zach, Jacob, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Tiane; he started attending First Baptist Church of Lamesa as a |
---|
14 | 14 | | youth, and he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts |
---|
15 | 15 | | of America; he graduated from Klondike High School in 2013 and |
---|
16 | 16 | | attended Angelo State University; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A member of Lamesa Fire and Rescue, Mr. Leonard |
---|
18 | 18 | | began his law enforcement career with the Concho County Sheriff's |
---|
19 | 19 | | Department in June 2019; he transferred to the Dawson County |
---|
20 | 20 | | Sheriff's Department in December of that year and then returned |
---|
21 | 21 | | to Concho County in 2021; to his colleagues, he was like family, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and after his untimely death, his department vowed to honor his |
---|
23 | 23 | | legacy by retiring his badge and unit number; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Leonard shared a rewarding marriage with |
---|
25 | 25 | | his wife, Morgan Lea Leonard, whom he wed on June 3, 2017, in San |
---|
26 | 26 | | Angelo; this devoted family man treasured time spent with his |
---|
27 | 27 | | daughter, Magnolia Rae Leonard, and he had a contagious laugh and |
---|
28 | 28 | | a natural ability to put others at ease; moreover, he was a member |
---|
29 | 29 | | of Milam Masonic Lodge No. 11 in Lamesa; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of the law |
---|
31 | 31 | | enforcement profession, Deputy Samuel Leonard served his |
---|
32 | 32 | | community and his state with compassion, integrity, and honor, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and although he is gone, his dedication and sacrifice will never |
---|
34 | 34 | | be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |

36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Samuel Alexander |
