SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 508 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Ernest L. Williams on his many contributions to his community and his outstanding 25-year career as a Texas educator; and WHEREAS, Ernie Williams graduated with a degree in elementary education from The University of Texas--Pan American, and he began his career in education with the Harlingen Independent School District in 1968; he served the students of the district as a sixth grade teacher for ten years before beginning successful careers in real estate and insurance; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams returned to teaching in the Harlingen Independent School District in 1990 and served as a ninth grade history teacher and junior high golf coach; he went on to serve as a sixth grade teacher and an elementary school coach in the Edgewood Independent School District in San Antonio until his retirement in 2005; and WHEREAS, During his 25 years as an educator in public schools, Mr. Williams made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young Texans; he sought to inspire in his students an appreciation for challenge and a true love of learning, and he helped instill in them the same principles of kindness and good citizenship that he modeled for his own five children; and WHEREAS, Ernest Williams is a devoted husband and father, an avid golfer and fisherman, and a treasured friend to many; he is an esteemed member of the Harlingen community, and it is indeed fitting that he receive special recognition for his exemplary service to his community and state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend Ernest L. Williams on his many contributions to the Lone Star State and extend to him best wishes for continued success in his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
