5	5	WHEREAS, Sergeant Stephen Jones of the Concho County
6	6	Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty on May 10, 2021,
7	7	at the age of 34, and the tragic passing of this exemplary officer
8	8	is a tremendous loss to his family, his department, and his
9	9	community; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Born in San Angelo on July 9, 1986, Stephen Jones
11	11	was the son of Doug and Nola Jones; he grew up with the
12	12	companionship of four brothers, James, Mark, David, and Daniel,
13	13	and three sisters, Marie, Teresa, and Sarah, and he graduated
14	14	from his homeschool program in 2005; setting his sights on a
15	15	career in law enforcement, he earned his basic peace officer
16	16	certification from the Concho Valley Council of Governments; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Mr. Jones joined the force as a deputy with the
18	18	Concho County Sheriff's Office; well-liked and widely admired in
19	19	his community, he impressed his fellow citizens with his
20	20	kindness, his cheerful demeanor, and his willingness to lend a
21	21	helping hand whenever he was needed; to his colleagues in the
22	22	sheriff's office, he was like family, and after his untimely
23	23	death, his department vowed to honor his legacy by retiring his
24	24	badge and unit number; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Sergeant Jones shared a rewarding marriage with
26	26	the love of his life, Rebekah Jones, whom he wed on May 28, 2005;
27	27	a devoted father, he deeply cherished his five children, Tyrel,
28	28	Kimber, Dakota, Grace, and Katie; in addition to spending time
29	29	with his loved ones, he enjoyed being outdoors, and he took great
30	30	pleasure in ranching, hunting, and shooting; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Embodying the highest ideals of the law
32	32	enforcement profession, Sergeant Stephen Jones served his
33	33	community and his state with compassion, integrity, and honor,
34	34	and although he is gone, his dedication and sacrifice will never
35	35	be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
36	36	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
37	37	Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Stephen
38	38	Jones and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
39	39	family: to his wife, Rebekah Jones; to his children, Tyrel Jones,
40	40	Kimber Jones, Dakota Jones, Grace Jones, and Katie Jones; to his
41	41	parents, Doug and Nola Jones; to his siblings, James Jones, Mark
42	42	Jones, Marie Jones, David Jones, Teresa Jones, Daniel Jones, and
43	43	Sarah Jones; to his father- and mother-in-law, Thomas and Tammy
44	44	Coder; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it
45	45	further
46	46	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
47	47	prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
48	48	this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant Stephen Jones.
